Amanda fixed her makeup.
"Everyone, my husband's here! Look alive!"
Brenda trembled with excitement.

"My future son-in-law! We're about to be related to royalty!"
Michael walked in with our relatives.
He looked handsome — like a movie star.
Everyone stared.
The stream exploded with comments about him.
I lay on the floor, barely conscious, listening to footsteps came closer.

"Michael, you're here! I missed you so much." Amanda clung to his arm.
He smiled. "Couldn't stay away, could you?"
Brenda asked, "Michael, where's your sister?"
"She just landed. Probably still getting ready. She'll be here soon."

Then Michael saw me.
"What happened? Who is this?"
I was covered in blood, my face destroyed. He didn't recognize me.
Amanda hesitated. "My friends thought she was the other woman… so we brought her here to teach her a lesson."
"The other woman?" Michael frowned. "This is ridiculous!"
"You know me — I haven't even looked at another woman since we met. How could there be a mistress?"
He was angry.
Amanda pouted. "I'm sorry, baby. I must have been mistaken."
She said it like it was no big deal.
Michael glared. "Even if she were a mistress, this is too far! This is assault! Do you understand?"
Amanda shrugged. "So what? She deserved it! Besides, your sister likes me — she'll fix it. She's the richest woman in Seabrook!"
Brenda added,
"She's right, Michael! We're family now. Your sister can handle it."
The bridesmaids agreed.
"Who cares? She's just some slut. Don't ruin the wedding over this."
